"Older students respond very well to the leadership opportunities they have. Prefects undertake a range of duties very responsibly". Ofsted Oct 2013.
All Year 10 students apply to be Prefect as it is good practice for when they apply to college; all students are given an interview. The chosen Prefects are given training, they are given scenarios and situations are simulated to see how the students react under pressure. A Head Boy and Head Girl will also be chosen to represent the student body.
Prefects carryout duties around the academy at break and lunchtimes to ensure that students remain safe. The Head Boy & Girl devise a rota taking into account clubs and revision sessions.
The Head Boy & Girl advise the SLT about new policies and have attended ELT meetings to put their points of view across on recent issues such as the rewards and behaviour policy. This was followed up by an assembly delivered by them and staff to the students.
Prefects deliver assemblies about anti-bullying and how to stay safe; they also visit our feeder primary schools to deliver the anti-bullying message.
We look for Prefects to have the following qualities:
- A good behaviour record
- A good attendance record
- Smart appearance, always follows the uniform policy.
- Approachable and friendly
