Key Stage 3

All students at The Axholme Academy study French in Key Stage 3. The plethora of activities used to engage students within a modern foreign language lesson may include a song, a poem, a listening activity, a video clip, a game, a reading or writing activity.  We are currently forging stronger links with our feeder primaries, local colleges and beyond in order to increase the students’ enjoyment and engagement with the subject at an earlier stage and increase uptake later on.

The topics covered at KS3 link to further study and the emphasis is on a continual building of grammatical and vocabulary knowledge so students are encouraged to use all of what they acquire throughout the course to demonstrate their progression.

Students will be immersed in the target language by their teacher during lesson time which will considerably develop their confidence and improve their capability to recognise new sounds and understand key information. Activities completed both in class and during independent time will encompass a range of listening, reading, writing and spoken language skills, including translation to and from the target language.

Regular assessment of all four skills will take place within lessons and formal assessments will be carried out at the end of each term. Students will also be expected to learn new vocabulary and spelling, and will be tested regularly.
