The All Schools Rugby Programme has been launched at The Axholme Academy in September 2016. The programme is a three year development plan with the ultimate aim of introducing, developing and ultimately sustaining rugby at The Academy.

We have two coaches named Olly and Dan who are in PE lessons six times per week delivering high quality and fun rugby sessions across years 7-10. By February half-term every student in years 7-10 will have taken part in a six week block of rugby. A rugby club on a Tuesday lunch has also been very well attended and this is run by Dan with the help of rugby enthusiast Miss Hall!

As part of the initiative we have also received a brand new Canterbury rugby kit (as worn by the Y10 team in the picture) and had the opportunity to attend a Canterbury kit design workshop where four of our students have designed a bespoke Axholme Academy rugby kit. Canterbury are currently in the process of creating the kit and we are expecting delivery in February 2017. Furthermore, there was a delivery of equipment to use in lessons and this included Gilbert balls, bibs, tackle pads, cones and rugby boots.

Head of PE Mr Beesley commented saying; "The All Schools Programme has been great so far and it has been really good to see the numbers of students engaging with rugby. The programme has 5 core values and these include sportsmanship, discipline, respect, teamwork and enjoyment. These core values give a great message to our students through the sport of rugby. What has pleased me most is the progress that is being made by the students in lessons under the expert coaching of Olly and Dan. We have already entered one tournament with the year 10 team and have plans to enter many more throughout the year, including some girls events."
