Dahlicious Day 2016
Tuesday 13th September was the third Dahlicious Day to be held at The Axholme Academy. It is something the academy does for Year 7 students to help them to settle in and to lead into a Roald Dahl based unit of work studied in English.
Students spend part of the day in their mixed ability form groups, sometimes mixed with entirely different students, and finally - all together to participate in 'Puffin Live'.
The workshops ranged from creating chocolate bars to conducting experiments with rhubarb - all with a link to Dahl's stories and his life. There were lots of rewards and treats given out to students during the day too. Every student made a donation to the Roald Dahl charity; meaning the day will benefit other children as well as them.
The 'Puffin Live' event allowed students to draw along with Quentin Blake, catch a glimpse of the West End show: 'Matilda', and learn some facts about Roald Dahl.
Staff from all different departments joined in to provide an enriching day for the Year 7s. They really enjoyed themselves!
Here are some quotes from the students:
“It was the best day ever.”
“I loved Dahlicious Day because I made a chocolate bar and wrapper and I got a Golden Ticket.”
“I loved Dahlicious Day because we got to do amazing things that we wouldn’t get to do on a normal day of school.”
“It was amazing and Dahlicious.”
