In Physical Education (PE) students are offered a broad and balanced curriculum at both Key Stage 3 and 4. A whole range of activities are taught and students can expect to use some outstanding facilities to include a refurbished sports hall, multi-use games area, 3G football pitch as-well as extensive fields.
The PE department has 4 core values; Respect, Effort, Sportsmanship and Teamwork. We expect these values to be evident in all PE lessons.
For years 7, 8 and 9 each activity is taught in 4 week blocks which equates to 8 hours for year 7 and 6 for years 8 and 9. Students are assessed from year 7 upwards using AQA GCSE PE practical grading criteria and track their own progress using the PE Progress Wall and their own individual PE Progress Card. There will also be opportunities to use Axholme North Leisure Centre swimming pool during PE lessons for a small cost.
During Core PE in Key Stage 4 students are again taught in 4 week activity blocks and the focus is on developing performance through game based scenarios. There is also a focus on mental health and the benefits of physical activity; especially during exam seasons. Students also have the opportunity to use both the gym and the pool at Axholme North Leisure Centre for a small cost.
At Key Stage 4 students are able to opt for GCSE PE (AQA) or BTEC Tech Award in Sport (Edexcel). These options are available to both boys and girls and can be discussed with any member of the PE team.
Lunchtimes and after schools are very busy with a wide ranging PE clubs programme as-well as competitions, tournaments and leagues against other schools in the local area.
