Physical Education


Physical Education (P.E.)

In PE students are offered a broad and balanced curriculum at both key stage 3 and 4. During Years 7, 8 and 9 students take part in one activity for four weeks and an assessment takes place at the end of this period. Years 7 and 8 have 8 x 1 hour lessons per activity and Year 9 have 6 x 1 hour lessons. Students track their own progress against PE specific target grades using the PE Progress Wall and their own individual PE Progress Card. 

During key stage 4 students spend 3 hours per fortnight in core PE and a more flexible programme is in place. The focus is on developing performance through game based scenario's as-well as trying new sports that aren't available at key stage 3. 

This provides every student with appropriate levels of challenge as-well as opportunities to excel and succeed in a whole range of sports.

Within PE students can expect to;

·         Take part in engaging and differentiated lessons

·         Use good quality equipment and resources

·         Give 100% effort and commitment in lessons

·         Have the chance to participate in lots of extra-curricular clubs and teams

At Key Stage 4 students are able to opt for GCSE PE (AQA) or BTEC First Award in Sport (Edexcel). These options are available to both boys and girls and can be discussed with the PE Department at any time.
