We are disappointed by the overall performance of our Y11 leavers in 2018 and have already put a considerable amount of time and effort into both reviewing what led to this set of results and implementing strategies which will ensure that in 2019 our Y11 results are comparable to results achieved in previous years. For many years students at the academy have achieved excellent results which have prepared them well for the next stage in their lives and we are determined that this will be the case for our current Y11 students and all those that follow.
There are many individual students from 2018 whose results deserve to be celebrated however. These students and their parents fully engaged with the school and the support which was available beyond normal high-quality lessons in the curriculum and went on to achieve, if not exceed, their target grades. Many of our most able students in particular secured impressive sets of results across all of their subjects with a number of them achieving grade 9s in at least one of their subjects. As Ofqual stated, “Grade 9 is not the same as A*; it’s a new grade, designed to recognise the very highest performing students.” We were therefore thrilled to see students at the academy achieving this top grade in the following subjects: mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, computer science and history.
