Booktrust Best Book Awards
A number of students and teachers of The Axholme Academy are dusting off their best outfits in preparation for a trip to the capital for the star studded Booktrust Best Book Awards with Amazon Kindle event next month.
The awards will see the finest of the literary world gather at the famous Lancaster Hotel where the winners will claim their prizes. Book fans have been voting for the past three months from a shortlist chosen by authors such as children's writer John McLay and celebrities such like former Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton and Made in Chelsea's Andy Jordan. Some of the books that made it into the shortlist were the best-selling teen book The Fault in Our Stars, David Walliams's app Slightly Annoying Elephant which was included in the first ever tech category and kids favourite Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
The students from the The Axholme Academy book club are avid readers so the chance to come to London for these awards, according to teacher Mrs Brameld is very exciting, 'The kids are big book worms so to attend the Booktrust Best Book Awards event where they will have the chance to meet some of their favourite authors is unbelievable. For many it will be their first trip to London and the fact that they will potentially be brushing shoulders with celebrities is the cherry on top! We can't wait to get there!'
