Llewi is a former student of The Axholme Academy who has just been  extremely fortunate in becoming one of the first apprentice fire  fighters in Humberside. Llewi was selected for the BTEC Humberside  Fire & Rescue Service in the Community course at the end of Year 9. The course ran one afternoon a week for
2 years during Years 10 and 11.  Llewi attended each week and was very  successful.

Llewi wasn’t always a model student in school, however at the start of  Year 11 reality hit him and his attitude changed, he took advantage of his final year and the support that was on offer working hard to achieve great results.

In July of this year I received a call from Jo Brown asking if Llewi, would be interested in applying for an apprenticeship fire fighter post. I  contacted Llewi and asked if I could pass on his details, which I did.  Llewi went through the application process with the support of his family, myself and the academy and was
successful in securing one of the 4 posts. Llewi has always shown a great interest in the Fire course and has
been keen to join the local retained crew at Crowle. He is now  currently waiting to start as a retained fire fighter at Crowle station.

Principal, Joe Sellars, said ‘As an academy we are incredibly proud of Llewi. His success and achievements are proof of what hard work and commitment can achieve. During his final year at the academy he really fulfilled his potential and has proved to be a great role model for our current crop of students. It is great to celebrate his success with him.’
