Year 6 Induction Day

On Monday 4th July over 100 Year 6 students came up to The Axholme Academy as the final part of their transition programme.

Throughout the year they have had a variety of visits from members of staff such as Miss Downs; the transition coordinator, Mrs Robson; the student support manager and Mr Brooks; the behaviour coordinator. Students have also been invited to participate in the Primary School Newspaper, come up for technology transition, had French teachers visit them and have taken part in a wide variety of sporting activities. The Year 6 Transition Day is a culmination of all these events and allows students to meet the rest of their form, along with their form tutor and experience a day at The Axholme Academy. All students were taught Maths, English and Physical Education on the day and then had an extra subject, such as Science, Complementary Studies and ICT. They were able to find out how to put money on their dinner cards and choose their own school meal, alongside mixing with other students from the academy. The Year 6’s were supported throughout the day by the Year 9 students currently being trained as Peer Mentors. All students had a great day and everyone went home with a smile on their face, excited to start the new term in September.
